As I mentioned in a recent post, I have a small tear in a ligament in my left knee, as well as tendinitis in my right psoas muscle. All the years I’ve been doing Yoga mean I know what’s going on, but not that I get to avoid it.
Thankfully, these issues don’t require surgery, just physical therapy—and acceptance. The acceptance of the aches and occasional injuries that accompany getting older, the acceptance of changes to my mobility, and the acceptance that most of my cute shoes are out. Yes, friends, it’s sneaker time.
I haven’t rocked stilettos or motorcycle boots for years; I’ve been more of a Doc Martens lady. Now, anything without the architecture of a Birkenstock is not only useless but harmful. Acceptance: it was time to seek out the comfy support shoe favored by older women—such as myself. And, apparently, one of my punk/goth icons, Siouxsie Sioux.
